I am getting ready to install a lift and put some new wheels and tires on. The rear wheel has the cap that fits over but with my front locking hub it has the control **** with auto/lock that I want to make black so it blends in better with my black wheels. What does everyone use to coat the ring? I am looking into anodizing, powder coating or paint. I want something to withstand the dirt and harsh cleaners that go on these wheels to make then look good. Thanks for the help!!
Get it powder coated, as that is the factory finish. Anodizing is expensive for one off parts and generally won't work due to the inherent porosity of the die cast aluminum the hub bezel is made of.
You will also have to figure out how to remove the **** without destroying the hub.
Another option is to buy the Black Warn Premium aftermarket(I have these) or Mile Markers that are Chromed finish.

yeah i have seen those but cant find a warn one for the auto locking, only manual for the 2020 super duty

If you want the auto feature I believe OEM is the only option. Since the hubs can fail I wouldn't spend a large amount of money on them, just sand and paint the ring and touch it up as needed.

Ahh. Well, I think you're opening a can of worms if you try to disassemble the ****. The cheap method as the other poster said would be to scuff them up and paint with a brush. I'd go with some black urethane like POR-15. It is rather durable and resists most chemicals, but will chalk to satin black from the UV sunrays.
My truck is black on black on black...the only time I ever notice the gray/silver hub is when Im cleaning the wheels. ..this is a problem?, a gray trim ring? Really? ..I thought I was making an issue of black wheels with chrome lug nuts...now that's a problem...

Thanks for your help, I am sure everyone really appreciates it!!
Unless your truck is a show queen, I advise not to over think it. I just snapped this pic of mine. 50,000 miles and 3.5 years ago I used a rattle can of rust oleum satin black on the hub. Used blue tape on the selector **** and an xacto to cut the tape along the seam. Didn’t even remove it from the hub, just taped the center and sprayed in place 3-4 light coats. Haven’t touched it since, other than the occasional pressure washer high power spray down. (Btw-what looks like a run in the paint is dirt - haven’t washed the truck for a while). Just spray it and be done.
