I’m installing an Ididit column in my 1953 F-100 but I’m not sure what size column drop I need. I am keeping my original bench seat in the truck. Anyone have this same setup? What size drop did you use? Thanks
It will depend on where you want the steering wheel to be and the angle you want for the column. The location where the base of the column goes through the floor will also determine how low it needs to come off the dash.
Mine had a 4" drop when I got it but it put the steering wheel too close to the seat.
I would locate the column through the floor and then see where the steering wheel ends up relative to the seat. Then measure between the column and the dash for the drop. Just my $.02
I tried a 2.5" drop first, wasn't low enough for me, I went to a 3.5" and that seems good. I also positioned where it goes through the floor about as high up in that floor plate as I could. I'm using a 90's chevy bench seat so it might sit a little farther back than the stock seat with a thicker back.
For the bottom, I'm going to use the collar from a cheap exhaust flapper (like for a tractor). I can remove the flapper and cut/reposition the tabs OR weld the collar to the floor plate. I think I'll make it bolt together like this though:
