I'm getting ready to put an Ididit column in my 53 and I'm wondering if anyone else has already put one in, and if so what size column drop did you use. Somewhere in one of my truck magazines I've come up with a 4 1/2 " drop is this too much? What do ya think?
I think that deepends on your seat selection and ( dont mean to be a smart-azz) girth.
Sit in your truck, arm out the window in a comfortable position, and use a pie-pan/paper plate on the end of a broomstiick, where does it feel good to you?
Stick the broomstick about where the column goes thru the flloor, and measure from the broomstick to the dash. That should be real close to your desired drop....everybody is different and with a different build/size, so what is good for you, may not be good for me...Good Luck!
I personally don't like that much drop. I have 1.5" drop on mine and it brings the steering wheel up closer to the dashboard. I also like the feel and gives me more space for my stomach to fit. LOL.... The 4.5" drop will bring the column pretty low. Sit in the seat, without a bracket holding the column. position the column where you like it and where you think it looks good. Then have someone measure the distance from the bottom of the dash the middle of the column. That will give you a good idea where you want to be.
