I am going to be starting on my running board restoration in the next few weeks, and I know I'm going to have to patch some of the ribbed area. After digging through old posts, finding a donor running board to cut patches out of seems like the only way to really fix them, since they aren't reproduced.
Does anyone have a set of 48-50 F2/3 running boards that they can cut some patches from the center?
Years ago I made a "shop made" bead roller with a large throat I machined two dies
on the lathe exactly as the ribs. Most will not go the trouble doing this but I made it, I
have it, and I use it. sam

I really haven't thought about that, mainly because it is a two man operation, meaning
I would have to reinvent like an electric drive a better way of tracking a panel. As it is now one man to hold and track while another turns the crank over and over because you are shrinking many times just for one rib not to mention these were stamped with
massive 100 ton or better machines, in 20 seconds. So I would say no cause if I did
it has to be a perfect match with instructions so being retired thats a little over my head. sam
I'm still hoping someone has a donor board that they could cut from. I don't know if the F1 and F2/3 board are different, I'd prefer to find a F2/3 board just incase they are wider.
Keep searching CL. When I was really looking hard, I found quite a few. It seemed that Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas had plenty. I looked at 5 beds in one area near OKC one day. I contacted a guy in Kansas to ask him to please don't scrap two he had and to post up here. He got no interest and scrapped them.
I searched long and far to find an express bed. Like I mentioned, went to Oklahoma. Ended up buying a 48 F2 in Tucson to get it. Put my flatbed on the 48 and sold it. Later, I was buying parts from a guy about an hour away and he had a brand new, NOS right side Express Bed running board. Still had the tag on it. It's from a 51 or 52 so slightly different than the 48 set I have. No difference you can see when mounted. I posted pics on one of my threads.
Anyway, I installed the NOS passenger side running board since it's perfect. So I do have a spare passenger side running board in great shape. Not perfect but, great. It has the typical roll under dent but, no rot.
I don't know if I want to part with it as hard as they are to come by. I'll think about it. You know mine will get hit right after I sell it. That's how it always seems to work.
Has Denny come across any on his parts safari?
Another place to try is Desert Valley Auto Parts near Phoenix.
