Kill Switch

I’m a total newb so bear with me. I recently got my hands on an 1988 f-250 5.8l 351w and I would like to install a kill switch to make my truck that much harder to steal.

I heard that you can cut and install a switch in one of the wires for the inertia switch. I was wondering if that’s a good idea and if so, how do I determine which wire to install the switch into? There is a dark-grayish wire and a pink wire with a black stripe.

Thank you.

Yeah I'm a newb too. It's funny you mention this though as I was just testing my fuel pressure system and was thinking the inertia switch would be a good kill switch itself. Although it would be inconvenient to remove the kicker panel so much but it would certainly be hard to steal.

Put this inline from the battery to the starter and you're done. No need to tap into the wiring harness.

I installed an aftermarket two stage alarm system with a starter cut off that was built in. even if they cut the alarm horn wires or punch the ignition, the truck still ain't going anywhere. Plus the control box is hidden so far up under the dash by the time they try to do any of that they will be on the wrong end of a .40 S&W.

Two stage = a warn away level (beep beep beep beep beep, etc) and also a full blown alarm with a 130 decibel air horn wired into the normal horn circuit, and alarm speaker, lights flashing, etc

with a little creativity I imagine you could wire in a switch to the fuel pump circuit, etc

To answer your question. It doesn't matter which wire you put it in. Just make sure to use the same guage wire and a heavy duty switch.

I wired a switch between the my tank selector switch. I hid behind the seatbelt on the b pillar slightly below where the seatbelt comes out of the plastic trim. It's within easy reach but you cant see it and it isn't the typical under the dash or seat placement.

The best part of doing a fuel pump relay switch, is if they try to hotwire it, the truck will still crank, so hopefully a thief will think the 30 year old truck is just old and un reliable. If you place it within the ignition, and the vehicle doesn't crank, its a dead give away that there is a switch somewhere, because even old crappy cars will still crank.
