Hey y’all check out this photo. This wire was sitting loose behind the engine and in front of fire wall. I believe it’s the coolant temp sensor. I found this while doing the duraspark 2 swap because my engine would kill when warm. I’m now second guessing as to whether I should go back to the TFI because all the harness is in place and if this was causing the problem then it seems like an easy fix. Should I go back to the TFI? The harness I pulled for the duraspark was from a v8 and mine is an I6. There’s a similar plug from the v8 harness but I doesn’t appear to extend to the oil sensor or the sensor behind the engine. Are either necessary from proper operations under the DS2 system. I’m still set on abolishing the smog on my truck with the DS2 but want to make sure I’m not missing any essential sensors or plugs. Could I create a wire to the oil sensor next to the distributor and a wire for the sensor behind the engine? If so and if necessary then how. Thanks.
The truck should run with either system, TFI or DSII, with out the oil or temp gauge wires hooked up.
The feed back system should get its temp feed back from a sender in the Stat housing.
If the v8 harness oil & temp gauge wires are not long enough you can add wire to make them longer with out any issues.

Is that wire white/red or red/white? It does look like a sensor wire, could be the coolant temp or the oil pressure. But it would only affect your gauges not the computer and the way the engine runs. That is a single wire sensor. The coolant sensor for the computer will have a two wire plug with two wires. I would continue on.
Any were along the wire that is easy to make the change.
If it is easy to add wire say 6" in from the end then do so. Why cut open the harness to add wire and close it back up?

You have a 300 six the temp gauge wire dose run behind the motor to the sender that is on the right side to the rear under the manifolds.
It could have hit the exh. manifold and melted. Look to see if there is a wire on the sender.
Also you can test that wire 2 ways to see if it is the temp gauge wire.
1- using a test light hook 1 side to that wire and the other end to ground. With key on, the test light should blink if it is the temp gauge wire.
2- if the test light blinks, key on ground the wire and see if the temp gauge goes to hot.
You can test the oil psi gauge wire the same way.
I think you are over thinking this.
If wires need extending just extend them just make sure they have a good connection at the splices.
