Hi all I have a 2006 E450 with v10 and the wheel just started to shake. The tires are fairly new and in great shape. I don't think that it's wheel balancing because it shakes at very low speeds 20mph. It feels like a wheel has been bent but I didn't hit any large bumps so I ruled that out and spins correct when jacked.. I jacked the front up and tried to move the wheels from side to side and got a little bit of play but it was not in the tie rods ends. I also tried unlocking the wheel and got what seems to be normal play. But who knows what normal is as I don't remember what normal was when it was running fine.
Anyone have any idea as to what caused this or what's to blame. Are these trucks known for any problems like this. I would be grateful for any help with this.
A little bit of play is not good. There should be no play at all. Pull the wheel off and see if you can move the hub and and down or side to side. If there is play then it is time to replace the wheel bearings. Do both sides, too.
You can use a crow bar to check for play at the spindle, which would be bad ball joints.
@Djosbun thanks for your reply. I found out what was wrong. I have Michelin tires and the belts separated on the 2 front tires. This will give you the same type symptoms of the problems that you wrote about. These tires only had 4K miles on 70K tires. I have had this happen with Michelin before. I will not buy Michelin again.
