Gentlemen,
I have a steering wheel for a 1985 or1986 Ford. It is the same size as my 1979 steering wheel. The newer one has the3 stitched look and is a bit larger in circumference. The problem with using the new one is the splines in the steering wheel have a flat non splined section that I'm sure is used for positioning the wheel. Does anyone know if the splined section of the steering wheel can be pressed out so I can swap the splined sections and use the newer wheel on my '79 which has the splines all the way around the full circumference of the inside of the wheel? I don't want to start trying to remove the splined section if it can't be done and render the wheel useless. Thanks for any input. Lyle
I'd take a small rat tail file to the flat non splined section in the new wheel & remove it. There will be plenty of splines still in the wheel to make for a secure installation.

No, the splines do not press out of the wheel.
Thanks for the responses. I took your suggestion and filed out the flat spot in the wheel hub. The new wheel works well. Thanks again for the help!
Have a great weekend, all.
