I’ve done a few MII suspensions on chevys and fords. The spring rate is critical to get everything to work right. You may still see some outward bow to the right spring but like others said, the lower control arm needs to be level. Once you have the right spring in there you should be able to set camber and be good to go.

  • Hello Ross, I trust you are well. The springs are stock 400lb springs as sold by Speedway for their M2 kits. If you remember I replaced the chopped 400lb springs last year because the suspension would bottom out on potholes etc. So I assume as others have said that the springs are to heavy. With a softer spring the weight of the truck would push the control arms up further (hopefully near horizontal) giving me a better ride and eliminating the positive camber. Or at the very least giving more adjustment to eliminate the camber ? This is what I am beginning to understand. The difficulty is finding out what is the correct weight of spring.

I would think that your road patrol officers ( they go under different names but the guys that check for overweight loads ) would carry portable scales as they do here . If you find one and ask nice he could weigh your front axle giving you accurate info for ordering springs . Are all speedway springs the same length ?

Yes I think all Speedway M11 springs are the same length of 13.5 inches. They are 3.5 inched ID and 4.6 inches OD. I will try to find a way to weigh the front end of the truck to help assess the correct spring. As Ross stated the springs are a large diameter. If they were a smaller OD it would help matters.

Here's a thread that should help. He has numbers for both the original engine and his current setup, and the weight distribution. I doubt your setup will be much different:

Hello Ross, thanks for the link, and apologies for the delay in my reply. Have been busy with something else. I am taking the truck to a weighbridge this week, then I should be able to move on .

Hello again from the UK. Just thought I would update the is post, after all the help from members on this problem. I started seeking advice on which spring rate to use, and getting wildly different suggestions from several companies. I of course realized that nobody was going to guarantee their answer was going to do the job perfectly. Finally I found the Old Ford Store in Tuscon. They have been fitting M2 kits for years. After chatting for a good while with them they suggested 325Lb springs would be what they would go with. Long story short...I have just fitted a pair and they are pretty much spot on. (See photo) The lower control arms are still pointing slightly down, but I am hoping over the next few months they will settle a bit more and be spot on. Thank you again to all members who posted comments to me.

I agree that looks excellent. New springs will settle about an inch or so, so I'd say you're right on the money. Give it 500 miles and keep an eye on it. The bigger question is, how does it drive now?

Thanks for the response. I have only driven around ten miles or so at the moment. But already it is much smoother over bad dips in the road. So fgar I am very pleased with the result.
