Got a custom harley in paint today. tomorrow will be the flake stage. Im excited for myself and the owner.
Got a vette z06 too, wrote the estimate, needs a **** load of parts.
Just finished some junk toyota and got paid.
Took a ride in my business partners dads rambler with a built 5.7, that mother ****er was more fun than some of the baddest new cars ive driven. My god.
I went on Rockauto and ordered all new steering linkage parts, Since it's only a center link, 2 tie rod ends and an adjuster it cost me a little over $100 bucks shipped, no complaints here. I talked to the wife and told her this was going to be a lot of work and parts. She said get it driving. It's a lot nicer than the other old trucks I see driving around. We will get the stuff to make it right and look nice. There are a few old Fords running around but they are work trucks and have been beat to hell and back. This is going to be a labor of love because most everything needs some attention. I have headlights and side marker lights but no tail lights or turn signals. I ordered 2 new rear tail light sockets, if I remember correctly they were pretty crusty last time I messed with them.
Next thing I am looking at doing is the rear end, can't decide if I want to go thru the old one or I found a complete 79 axle on craigslist for 200 bucks .
I took it for a drive around the yard then down the street yesterday. The front brakes work good, the back not so much, the radiator has a leak at the top seam, I need to order the correct radiator shroud. I still need to adjust the choke high idle a little bit more. There is no back lighting on the dash instrument panel. The speedo cable is jumping. Good news is the transmission is working perfectly.
All the new brake parts are in now, I still need to get some brake cleaner and new brake fluid. New steering center link and stuff is on the way.
New chrome center grille
I will end up replacing the front bumper and get a new outer grille with new lenses.
It has a few bumps and bruises but it doesn't look bad for a 41 year old truck.
Your right it will pretty much be a new truck if I do what I want to do. It is nice to finally be working on it again. Buddy at work had done a bunch of ring and pinions so I am just going to rebuild the one on in the truck. I would hope that when I get done one day my son would love to own the truck his grandfather and dad owned.
I have a small (I hope) project coming up in Dec after we get our son up here (12/15) he has a 2004 Santa Fe that he has not been kind to. We have reached burn out on the house. Took yesterday and today off from physical stuff. Next week we are going over to lake Oconee for a few days. The free cabinets we scored Friday will do most of the base. We will have to buy a couple of bases and a couple of wall. In the haul was an old round dining room table. we are going to redo it and sell the one we bought last year.
I get burned out on doing home stuff. The wife is painting the kitchen now and also wants re-wall paper the bathroom before the holidays. I do want to get rid of the metal rail by our stairs and put in a half wall instead.
Wife is getting the brake cleaner and new brake fluid today so I will have everything I need to start on the brakes this weekend. Also getting the RV antifreeze today, have to get it winterized before the cold sets in.The steering stuff is scheduled to arrive on Friday.

Debra has never done a live in remodel. Before we started told her it would get rough. A couple of problems: the speed I work at now, buying material when we have the money and find a deal, The money we are having to spend, and all the demo we had to do .
Did not do the antifreeze last year just drained everything, but I used the camper all winter. My freshwater tank has never had water in it
I just caught up on reading this thread. Chief, it looks like you've had a heck of a time with that gear box. Those rear ends usually held up great in the 70's models. I don't know what kind of rear end your looking at but if it's a 9" for $250 that sounds cheap. Never hurts to have an extra one of those lying in the shed. Even better if it's a positive traction.
Sounds like hturner12, could use a break. Breaks are good. Just took a short one myself. Went camping again, and relaxed. Did a little hunting. Another old time friend camping with us harvested a young spike. Should be good eating.
I had a couple of parts fall off my camper on the way there. One was the rear flap that covers the bumper section where the electric hookup is stored. Appears what ever held the aluminum hinge had rusted off. The flap luckily road on the bumper all the way there. Also the center sky light turned up missing. I'm like WOW. Just keep dragging it till the wheels fall off and leave it on the mountain.
I made my camp easy. I just left the camper hooked to the truck and only pulled out a chair and lantern lol. I just glanced at the level to make sure my head was sleeping uphill. I think the term is boondocking. I've been doing it for years and always called it camping. No facilities where we go hunting. There is a lot of National Forrest in GA and WMA's we hunt. I enjoyed the trip even thru the minor mishaps. It felt good to have that cool mountain breeze blowing across my bed while I slept. Either sex is this coming weekend. Hopefully I'll get something.
Yea the steering gear kicked my butt but I wasn't using my head either so that drug it out. I am planning on everyone working on Saturday, we are behind and trying to catch up. Was planning on starting on the brakes on Saturday but looks like that is going to be a little delayed. I cleaned the yard of anything that might blow around with the bad weather coming. Never was a hunter, tried it a couple of times but it wasn't my cup of tea. Turning wrenches is my thing, gets old at times but I still enjoy it. The new sockets for the tail lights came in today. My wife picked up my brake cleaner and the brake fluid this afternoon, steering parts are in transit.
Sunday wife said she wanted to do something in the spring, She said a cruise. After asking her 100 questions and 2 hours of searching I found the prefect cruise out of Tamps, 5 days, Key West and CoCo Cay. We picked the room got everything set up and I said: You know we will have to wear a mask if we go on this cruise, She said oh heck no just forget it. 2 hours of my life wasted!!
There's always Pigion Forge and Gattlingburg. Probably still plenty of fall colors on the trees. A trip to Cades Cove is a good time especially early in the morning to see plenty of wildlife out and about. Bear, trophy bucks and turkey. Those bucks are in rut right now so their fighting and chasing does.
Did a double check around the yard, moved my bike and the wifes hummer to a little safer area. Got the flashlight and electrical devices charging. Generator and extension cords are ready. I wake up when it rains hard so I am sure to be woken up early. Heavy rain I'm not worried about, it's tornadoes I am most concerned about.
