installing 1 new pushrod

I have a 460 cu in big block, bored out to 509 cu in.
After noticing valve train noise, I removed the valve cover and noticed that the rocker was very loose on intake cylinder 1.
The head of the pushrod was slightly bent. I am replacing it with a new push rod.
Not wanting to take off the intake manifold, I just want to replace the one pushrod in its place and then re-adjust with the right procedure the roller rocker for that pushrod.
Is the following the right procedure?
1. After dropping in the new rod and reinstalling the rocker I hand tighten the rocker nut until no valve lash.
2. Turn the engine until the exhaust valve on cylinder 1 starts to move slightly.
3. Re-tighten the rocker adjusting nut by hand until no valve lash.
4. Give the adjusting nut 1 complete turn and then tighten the locking hex nut inside the rocker adjusting nut.
5. Verify all the other rocker nuts are tight.

Make sure you don't accidentally pull the lifter out of it's bore when removing pushrod. Any idea what caused the pushrod to bend?

The rocker got loose to the point of having a play of 1/8 of an inch on top of the pushrod and on top of the valve stem. The adjusting nut and the lock nut of the rocker both got loose.
Since my 1st post I have replaced the pushrod and I readjusted all of the 16 rockers for valve lash using a method I saw online but I botched it up and then the truck wouldn't start and it seemed like the timing was off, but it turned out it wasn't the timing. Since then my engine builder described another method that I will use to adjust valve lash and the valves. It's the EOIC method (exhaust, opening, intake, closing).
Keeping my fingers crossed.
