Hey everyone. Rebuilding another zf5, odd issue here. I have a normal amount of play on the main shaft BUT on the countershaft I have 0 play. I thought it may be binding so I took the main out and only put the counter in. Still 0 play. Any Ideas? Obviously I haven't installed shims. 460 big block
well hit me upside the head and call me a fool. One of the bearings needed one more love tap to seat all the way. I wouldn't want a transmission built by me. New problem, wheres a shim kit for the input shaft?
When I looked, the only supplier of official S5-42/47 shims was Midwest Transmission in Zumbrota, MN and they would only sell it in a complete kit for $90 or something.
I eventually ended up buying shims from Nogalitos Gear in San Antonio. They've figured out which differential shims are close enough and will sell you those for around $15 I think it was. The main/input shaft shim they send you is actually a pinion shim for a Dana something or another if I remember correctly. It's not exact but close enough to do the job.
