Welcome to the Spooky month of October. According to the news last night, the Creek fire should be 100% contained by the end of the month. I pray by then some of the other fires will also be 100% contained as well.
I missed last month. Sorry to hear of all of the fires down there. We had a couple of bad ones last month here also. My cousin in Southern Oregon lost his house and all his belongings to a fire last month.
Happy Thursday Nor Cal. Looks like I might be buying a second gen (89-92) Ranger in the next month or two. Might have to wait for the second stimulus, but I am told I can get it for $500 if the owner doesn't put a gas tank in it. Higher if he buys one and installs it. Some A hole put a hole in the current one. It needs a battery and a tune up also as it has been sitting for at least 4 years (when I moved in) but he says he has a brand new battery sitting in his apartment for it. It has faded paint and the clear coat on the hood is badly peeled, but no major dents or rust. It does need the inside door latches though. It is the 2.3 liter four, and has an auto trans, which is perfect for me with my bad knee I can't drive a manual trans vehicle anymore. It has a contractor rack in the bed with a bed liner, and after market wheels. I'll get some pics of it next time I go out in the parking lot.
Not bad for $500. It looks like it will need a front end alignment as well as a tune up, and the replacement gas tank. I plan on changing the oil and all filters, and maybe even the serpentine belt and all hoses as well. Since he already has a new battery for it, the only big expense will be the gas tank. I am also hoping he has the center caps for the wheels too.
Jim, think about the tires, brakes. Cooling system, automatic transmission..... You could be spending $500, to buy $5,000 worth of deferred maintenance. Based on my previous experience, with a truck that age, the transmission and differential will require service. Suspension will set you back at least a set of shocks. Thermostat, fan clutch, water pump, belt, and sometimes even pulleys are needed. AC needs recharge. All sorts of seals and gaskets are worn. PCV & EGR valves will become a problem. O2 sensors are fouled. Engine may need a new timing belt. 8 track player is stuck and you are stuck with Lionel Ritchie. Upholstery smells like a dirty prostitute.
Don't let me scare you. Enjoy the truck. $500. I know hookers that charge more for a ride.
