"UPDATE" Had my 17 in again to Ford for the running hot issues. Several have had similar problems so I wanted to post the resolution. After telling me 227-232 unloaded down the highway was within spec and I have no issues, I persisted and they found the thermostat was bad! Thats all it was and It caused the fans to run high, the numbers to pop up above the factory gauge, constant temps in the 230s not towing. While yes these trucks do run "hotter" they shouldn't be that hot. I now have average temps at 210-213 on the highway, unloaded, and about 208 in town. They replaced the thermostat with another 195, as thats whats in the 17, and it has only hit 222 with a trailer and about 3000lbs. It immediately dropped back down when I crested the top of the hill. Several others have experienced similar problems and might try the thermostat replacement. Cheap fix, all things considered lol.
I thought I offered some operational temps from my 18 and 02 but what temp are you stating?
The engine cooling system or the trans temps?
On my 18, I can see the Trans on the small dash panel display.
I need to use a Scanner to see the actual 'engine cooling' system temperature aside from the dash gauge that is only a rough indicator.
Just wanting to understand for the future.
Thanks.
When your truck gets over 225 (coolant), numbers pop up over the sweep gauge. Newer models anyway. My numbers started showing up a few months ago. I also plug an old tuner in so I could monitor temps live so to speak.

Misinformation is frustrating, especially when it comes from a dealer. Nothing is supposed to run "hotter"… You have the exact same temperature thermostat that my 16-year-old Expedition does.
That was an honest question. I try and keep up with things, but it's not easy doing that with a hand disability. You piqued my interest, so I looked up what I thought was the most common engine, but my hands weren't up for digging through the rest of them.
