That's not a great deal. This comes up a lot and the first thing anyone should do is start with the X-Plan. It takes about 13 seconds to find a random code to enter into Ford's X-Plan portal. This doesn't allow you to buy with X-Plan, but it adjusts the Ford configurator tool to show X-Plan pricing, rather than MSRP. So, you see the per-option X-Plan pricing for base and all options. Again, super easy. If a person is savvy enough to find his way here, then that person can research X-Plan easy. In aggregate, X-Plan ends up being just shy of 6% off list (incredibly similar to invoice) ... so the alternative method is to just build out your truck and multiply by .94 - .945 to estimate what X-Plan/invoice would be.

So, a $72K truck should be about $68K out the door, before government stuff. And that's the no-haggle, super-easy X-Plan price. And, if nobody will beat X-Plan, then just do that. Costs $25 at the mustang car club of america for a membership that comes with X-Plan privileges.

Either way, for any prospective buyer, the conversation starts with X-Plan. It may not end there, but that's the absolute worst deal anyone should ever have. BTW, rebates, incentives, and PCOs all apply to the X-Plan pricing.

Mine here in Texas was pretty well invoice less PCO and rebates. Costco and Amex dealers were both like $500 off MSRP and acted like I was getting a great deal.

Deals aren’t epic right now but trade in values are: my ‘17 cost almost nothing to own for 3 years/53k mi.

I agree with this with one exception. X Plan is something that not all dealers accept. They choose if they want to or not.

My buddy was going to buy a new truck this weekend using the X Plan and that dealership decided that they were going to exclude superduties from the X Plan. He decided to walk since they weren't going to give him the x plan. Now that may only be that one dealer, just something to check into before you plan on using it.

I ran into the same - even dealers that accept X plan may not on a particular vehicle, even on one that had been on the lot more than 30 days.

Costco in my area was $1700 under invoice, but the dealer currently has a SD truck listed even less than that on their website.

Are you negtiating the price at the time of order? The hard part with ordering a truck these days is that it'll quite a while for them to get to the lot. Who knows what rebates, etc. there will be when it shows up. I guess its important to negoiate the best deal possible with the assumption you won't get much in the way of incentives. The dealer I bought my current truck from just placed a an order for a bunch of 21 Super Duties. They asked if I wanted to order one the way I wanted along with this order. No numbers were mentioned. They also told me I wasn't under any obilgation to buy the truck I ordered if I didn't like it for some reason. Said they would just sell it to someone else. They also know I am not looking for any strange combo of colors or features so it will be marketable. I am waiting until I can see a truck in the color I wanted before ordering.

I always assume you should start with 6% to 7% off the MSRP and go from there. With the limited number of trucks avilable out there right now, I can see dealers holding on to a higher price until things even out a little.

Yes, you should come to a price agreement when you order, AND have the dealer lock in the rebates that exist when the order is placed. If the rebates are better when the truck arrives and you are signing, you can have them erase the old and take the new. If not, you can keep the old.

The official Ford dealer term for locking in the rebates is "Incentive Protection".

Always know the invoice price for the truck you are buying, not just the MSRP. Most dealers will show you the invoice price on any vehicle on the lot, or ordered. If not, you can find it online at costco.com or nadaguides.com. That should be your max offer as it still nets the dealer quite a profit. Most folks here have been able to get well below invoice with haggling and rebates. At the very least, use X-plan price to get real close to invoice. To get X-plan, you either need to work for a Ford supplier, own Ford stock for a period, or join certain groups such as the Mustang club or EAA for a period.

I've got a '19 F-450 that was a custom order truck. MSRP was a little over 80, I got it for 70.
This was pre COVID, I've had the truck for almost 2 years. So I'm not sure what the landscape looks like right now for wiggle room.
We made the deal before the order went in.

Well, I called and talked to fleet managers all over the midwest inc Texas And invoice was all I could get plus whatever incentives are avaible at the time of delivery.... BAsically saved 3600 of msrp..... They should start production first of November. Covid was a Godsend to used truck prices not new ones. When a local dealer was asking 63500 for a 2020 XLT with 7k miles on it made up my mind. Got a 2021 lariat 4wd for 69k with no miles or year depreciation.
BTW, this is my first new vehicle in 58 yo of living. Retired yesterday so it should last me the rest of my life lol.. Now I have to go break the news to my 2005 CC F350 dually

Congrats on the first new vehicle order and on the retirement.
I woke up at the usual 0600 the morning after I retired and thought to myself, "Well it's Saturday, better get up, never want to waste a Saturday." Then I thought, "Hey wait a minute, now every day is Saturday!" Enjoy the truck and the retirement.
