2000 F250

Hi there Everyone!

How are we all doing? I’m in the process of buying a regular cab Ford F-250 with the 5.4L engine in it. Paid all of $2500 for her. The previous owner decided to take it out and go mudding with it. Then for some reason the truck stopped running. He said he observed antifreeze in the oil. What was not mentioned until my step dad brought it up that there was water seen coming over the hood (i.e. the mud hole they took the truck through was really deep, and the engine took a giant gulp of water).

Is it possible that maybe just maybe the engine is still good yet? Any have any thoughts on this? I’m also looking to move to SE Georgia. I should mention the truck has a very sketchy history. Like maybe it’s been through a chop shop? I’ll certainly keep everyone in the know about the truck. My step-dad and a friend of his are going to pull from his other friends house to their house....distance about 5 or 6 miles.

take care,

Ben

The engine sucked in oil and no longer ran afterwards? Did you try and turn the engine over by hand?

Hydrolock usually ends poorly.

I’m thinking they didn’t try. We really won’t know anything until we can get the truck towed over here. Ken, and bud will work on that project on Wednesday. This truck needs a lot, and I do mean ALOT of help.

Here’s a question....How does water or antifreeze get into the crankcase of the 5.4L triton motor? Gabe (the current owner of the truck) thinks the engine is shot, but he’s never done any tests on the motor nor does he have any real mechanical background at all.

If it sucked water, it sucked in through the throttle body. Pull the plugs, drain all the oil, refill with good oil, spray oil in the cylinders through the spark plug holes, the remove the belt(s) on the front of the motor and try to put a socket on the front and turn it by hand, if you get it turning pretty easy, then that says it's at least not locked up from water and rust. At that point I'd throw the plugs back in and see if it fires up. There can be no guarantee with an engine that was water flooded, if it starts, it could last a day, month, year, or many years.
