E4od

I’m having problems with my e4od. Iv narrowed down the problem. Once the torque converter locks up there is a rattle/growling noise and it goes away with the touch of the break lights because that disengages the lockup and is intensified with driving up a hill, I even change all the fluid with mercon v and it still does it fluid was good no metal other than fuzz on the magnet. Any help I would appreciate it thanks guys

edit.. now that I think about it, it kinda sounds like pre detonation because it is low rpm when the converter is locked given the load on the engine being more when locked would cause it but really does it on a slight hill low rpm around 40 to 55. No codes. New plugs, wire, distributor, coil since Iv owned and it is rebuilt

This is interesting. I will be following this thread. I am chasing a rattle/whirring noise on my rebuilt engine.. never touched the transmission, so kind of ruled that out. Going to try hitting the brakes when mine rattles, and see what happens.

turned out to be detonation. Timing was at 14 and I brought it back down to 10 and ran some higher octane gas and bam no more noises and runs much better now hope this helps.
