So I most likely have at least one bad injector. I want to read the power balance of each injector.....I believe that is what it is called.
I have torque pro, but I haven't been able to locate that functionality...so either I'm a blind idiot...highly possible... Or it doesn't offer it.
If it does, I'm all ears on which pid I need to use.
If not, are there options out there for reading, outside the really expensive scanners?
You can't read the power balance for each cylinder with torque Pro. It will throw a code for the cylinder saying misfire/contribution if it sees a misfire. What tells you, you have a bad injector?
Why bad injector....had HPOP tested, said that it tested good, and didn't suspect the stc fitting either. Replaced the IPR and ICP.
Fires right over cold, but does the hot hard start.
See some smoke at acceleration, is believed to be excess fuel.
I am trying to also figure out options for running a buzz test. I saw one app available on line, but don't really want to buy it for just one single functionality, since torque pro is way better in all other ways.
I have a Foxwell NT644 pro scanner, and it does do live data...I'm trying to dig in right now and find out what that truly offers.
I hate to just throw crap against the wall and see what sticks. But I don't feel like I'm gaining any ground.
I'm all ears if there is a better way to narrow the search.
What year is it? If it's 2004.5 or newer it has dummy plugs and stand pipes that are known to be course of hot no start.
Forscan Lite is a cheap code reader and peramitor monitor for every day use. You can do an injector buzz test with it. It also has a lot more pids for peramitor readings. $5.99. And ya already have a dongle.
Well, my engine is somewhat of a hybrid. The truck is an 11/03 build. I have a pre-2004 turbo, and stuff, but the block and heads and all are 2004.5+ Engine was replaced before I owned it. So quite honestly, I'm still trying to figure all that out. I've had another project in my shop for a long time. But it's finally leaving tomorrow, so I will be able to focus on my truck now. Going to pretty much tear it down, starting with the turbo and clean / inspect it. Replace the boots on the cold and hot. Verify that it has the blue spring... then EGR delete, and I want to dig into the HPOP / STC and all, just for educational purposes. I know about the dummy and stand pipes, but have never dug into them. If I have to replace an injector(s), I guess that would be a good time to tackle that as well. I like the idea of the improved water pump and putting the 7.3 fan clutch on. But not sure if my intended load is worth doing it.
Looking into forescan right now. I'm on a mac of course, so never ending portability challenge there.
Thanks!
If the ICP sensor is on the valve cover by the alternator. You have stand pipes and dummy plugs,
You won't have the STC that the 05+ engines have to fight with.
Also AE is worthless for power balance testing. It will tell you it's a good injector and in fact it
is a nearly dead injector. They just have not bothered to fix the software issue in that tool.

A late 04 HPOP will still have the old style discharge fitting. It is not until you get to the 05 model year do you see the failure probe STC fitting.

I think you can figure out if you've got an 04.5 or 05+ engine by looking at the HPOP cover. You should be able to see down in there without removing everything, might require some mirrors & yoga moves.
The 04.5 cover will look like this, minus the ICP sensor. The cover is cast iron and the pump is totally covered:
The 05+ will look like this with an aluminum cover and the top of the pump sticking out:
