Six point eight

2022 F150 6.8L V8. Same plant as the 7.3L. So pushrod? Likely aluminum block? Maybe add DI?

Not sure I'm allowed to list another forum? If yes I will.

Leaked by union leader, built at Windsor plant. Union settled and leaked info.

Dias said Ford’s Windsor engine plants will begin producing a new 6.8-litre engine in 2022 for the F-150 pickup truck and the Ford Mustang.

Its running across the internet in different forums. I'm hoping for a smaller deck pushrod motor for the 150 as an option.

Nothing official, just speculation off the union leader comment.

A short deck, shorter stroke 7.3 might make sense. A smaller bore would work also if turbo or supercharging was in the plan.

We shall see....

I highly doubt that this is true for a F150 and especially the Mustang because such an engine wouldn’t make sense in either vehicle.

Perhaps for the SD.

More than likely it’s just click bate.

Just click bait, the v8 is less than 20% of total volume for the F150 now and its not gaining shares. The CAFE mandate is still in effect for 2025 and you are not hitting that target with a 6.8 engine.

Who knows at this point but when similar news re 7.3L leaked out a few years ago we all called bs too. Pushrod? Never!.

More compact than coyote. Cheaper to produce. Same plant as 7 3L. Prob not heavier. Much simpler. dont think of it as a new engine. Just de stroked 7.3 with aluminum block that will work w F150 and a special edition mustang or two.

Rational and realistic people were saying that the 7.3 was for the SD whereas other people were saying that the 7.3 was going in the F150 and some even said the Mustang.

PowerKid, you can post links to other forums or other major trusted sources. If it turns out to be click bait or worse, I'll delete the link.

My take on the 7.3 is that Ford didn't develop it for a one and done power plant. I fully expect to see a smaller displacement version of it. The engine itself it smaller and lighter than the Triton based 5.0 currently in use. 6.8 isn't enough of a drop in displacement from 7.3. Somewhere in the 5.5-6.2L region would probably be more like it.

If you Google Unifor 6.8 V8, all the Ford forums are a-buzz right now.

More engine options is always good. To me makes most sense in the Raptor and special edition Mustangs. But Ford usually knows better than me.

This was mentioned on Autoline last week and my ears perked up, but they didn't mention which platforms it may go into. Something that size might also be a good replacement for the 6.2 L in the Super Duty as well.

I see no need for a 6.8 in a F150. With the new power numbers they don't need any more
