Hey everyone. New to the forum and first time Super Duty owner. Just took delivery of my 2020 7.3L CCSB Lariat (3.55RE) on Saturday. Like the truck so far but it’s my first truck in almost 10 years and my first 3/4 ton ever so looking for some feedback.
I expected this 10 speed to perform differently due to gear skipping but I was surprised by the difference between 1-3 3-5 and 2-4 4-6. 1-3 3-5 is smooth and power is consistent but the even number sequence is sluggish, not harsh or hard shifting just plain sluggish.
Did anyone else have this issue and did it get better after a certain mileage? I’ve got 200 miles on the truck thus far.
I can say I rarely am in the even gears until 8th, that being said my only issue was low speed in 2nd the truck did seem to be confused that I wanted it to start moving again after yielding at a right hand turn. That was at about 600 miles and "Eco" mode. I have 4.6k on it now, never noticed an issue since just sticking with Normal or Tow/Haul mode
Thanks for the feedback! I am usually in the odd range too but it goes to the even skip every once in awhile when slowing to make a turn and then feels sluggish accelerating out of the turn. I run in normal mode. ECO takes the fun out of it.
If you want it to methodically shift thru every gear, hit tow/haul. It will run 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10.
My truck shifts all over the place, but it’s always just right..
BTW, tow /haul is excellent when towing heavy..then couple the exhaust brake...equally sweet.
I have a 7.3 with 4.30s it definitely took some time for the transmission to “learn”. In normal mode it shifts 1-3, 3-5, then all of the rest. Doesn’t use 2 or 4 very much. In the beginning it was kind of weird but It got much better the more I drove it around. I’ve got about 10,000 miles now and I really like the 10 speed especially when I’m towing.
I have about 7500 miles on mine and have not noticed it being sluggish in even gears. It does sometimes have a lag and slow response at slow speeds. My F150 eccoboost does the same thing. About 6500 of my miles are towing my 9000# TT, and my issue is the skip downshifting. I find that many times while in cruise a 2 gear shift is overkill. I noticed that without cruise, it will shift 1 gear at a time. Without manually shifting via the button or M, is there a way to eliminate 2 gear downshifts while towing? Many times it shifts down two gears and then almost immediately goes back up 1 gear, this gets annoying. My F-150 10 speed( lighter loads) downshifts 1 gear at a time while towing. Thanks
Glad to hear it improved for you. At first I thought the 3.55 gearing might be a contributor but after driving this some more and reading the manual I’m thinking it’s more the programming than the gears. This thing wants to get to 10th gear by 55 mph which is crazy. Have no issues past 5th gear and only notice the shifts if I happen to be looking down when it moves. Most are reporting improvements over time so gonna stay optimistic.

I think we’re experiencing the same thing. Mine has a lag and slow response at slow speeds too.
need to wait until you get 2-3k on it. DONT baby it! The best thing I did for both of my 20's was hook to a HEAVY trailer and run the darn thing. If you still have issues take it into the dealer for a relearn.cj

Hey thanks for the advice. Put another 100 miles on it today and didn’t baby it as much as I likely have been. Definitely could tell a positive difference. Gonna take your advice and haul after 1000k too.
