Things I like and don't like about mine vs the 6 speed. It has a 1-1 at 7th gear, 5different modes, makes a 2.28 gear using 10th. Hunts in the lower gear in traffic, skips gears unless your on it.
I'm sure I'll get use to it, I wonder if the GM one does the same in there cars since it's not in their trucks yet.
Mine has an indicator I can turn on or off. It's on the gear selector (+ or -) when it's in "D" , I can turn it off or on.

As to the shifting characteristics well thats hit and miss. I have a 2018 with the 2.7 and the downshifts from 6-5 and 4-3 are brutal in traffic. I have a 2017 with the 3.5 as a work truck and its smooth as can be.

One other added feature, when your in "D" you can press the - and the gear selector will go down and that will become your top gear. I'm now starting to select 7 or 8 when I get in the truck especially if I'm not going on the freeway.
I know all off this is kinda of a PITA and we didn't do with the 6 speed but it may work out to be a way better trans for how I drive.
I'm sure I'll never let it go over 7 th when I'm towing. I never let my 96 351 into OD with 3.55's and it was always great and this one has so much more power.

Trans Shifting
You have press the Button on the end of the Shifter to get to the Shift selections press the + to get the 1-10 Display or- to turn it off I noticed with mine with the 2.7 some of the Downshifts are a little Abrupt but they say its learning my driving Habits good thing there is a Speed Limit!!!

So far the 10 speed in my 17 has worked very well. The skip-shifting may annoy some people - it doesn’t bother me a bit. Put in Tow/Haul mode and you’ll want to buy the programmer a nice dinner. The truck maintains speed using the gearbox alone while descending grades up to 8.
Put the truck in Sport mode and it authoritatively snaps through the gears at your direction with no lag..

I recently traded for a 2018 F-150 Platinum FX4 with an 3.5L Ecoboost engine and 10 speed transmission. This truck is getting great fuel mileage and I couldn't ask for better service from the transmission. No issues so far. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the Automatic Start/Stop feature.

I will say that my experience isn't typical, but I had some serious issues with the 10 speed behind both a 3.5 Eco and 5.0. both 2018s. My 3.5 had 1300 miles when the transmission failed and the 5.0 long term loaner had about 2600 on it.
My truck was only driven by myself, I hadn't towed with it yet, it wasn't abused, and the heaviest load it had hauled (occupants +cargo) was about 900 lbs which was well within the 16xx lbs payload on the sticker.
The loaner was a dealer demo before I had it. I used it in a similar capacity to mine but am not sure how it was treated before me.
When they worked they were great. The 2nd gen 3.5 Eco and the 10 speed are an excellent combo. There was no excessive shifting or gear hunting. Until there was no shifting or gears.
On the plus side Ford Roadside Assistance is great. I'm also happy with how the situation was addressed and would still highly recommend both my dealership and Ford. I'm in a Super Duty now and love it.

2018 Platinum w/Defective Transmission OSS and Wiring Harness
I have a 2018 F150 Platinum SuperCrew with the 3.5 EB, 10spd, Max Tow, FX4, 6.5 Box, etc. purchased new on Dec.2, 2017. As of today (2.20.18) the vehicle has 1,317 miles on it, had never towed anything, and apparently - according to the Ford dealer that the flatbed tow truck dropped it off to - the OSS and wiring harness for the OSS have failed/are defective. The OSS is being overnighted from Boise, but the wiring harness is not available anywhere in the country and is back ordered. Anyone else have similar issues? Thoughts?
Thanks.
Thanks.
