I did a search for this and was surprised not to find anything. My 97 has developed a few fuel leaks. So I've decided to do the reasonable thing and remove the bed so that I can replace the entire fuel supply system. I'm looking up the fuel tanks on the Spectra Premium website as well as Rock Auto. They both show multiple take sizes. I have an extended cab long bed. So I'm guessing I have a 19 gal front and 18 gal rear? Is there any way to verify this short of running both empty and then topping them off (just to have them leak back out onto the ground)?
Also, I've read about people putting in poly tanks, which would be nice to take out the future rust variable. But I've read that it removes the ability to have a spare tire?
Am not completely clear on the question, is it for an OE configuration, or to go with the 38 gallon tank mod?
If the 38 gallon tank was not the plan, might consider it as the only additional work is a Bronco sending unit (with slight modifications) and re-alignment of the spare tire set-up. Either the Spectra F26E or F26D will work. Here is a good write-up:

With a 38 gallon tank, really do not have much need for the midship tank.
I was asking which tanks to buy for an OE replacement. I didn't know the 38 gallon tank mod was a thing. If you do that, do you just remove the midship tank all together? And then I assume you also tank out the tank selector valve and plumb it to the 38 gal tank only?
If going the 38 gallon path, your decision on removing the midship tank and bypass / remove tank valve.
Given that the truck comes OE with dual tanks, when I go the 38 gallon route, am seriously considering turning the midship into a transfer tank for supplying the rear.
Or you can leave both tanks. I swapped in a 38gal from an 07 f350 cab chassis truck some modifications were needed to the frame rails and straping but the sending unit and fuel lines were plug and play. Well worth it having both tanks.
I agree with Adan, worth having both tanks! I also have a aux tank in the bed so I can hold up to 90 gallons. Comes in handy pulling the 5er plus if you see a cheap price on fuel, take advantage of it!
Definitely do the 38 Gal F26D. the D model is 20 bucks cheaper, but you have to twist out the vent in the fill tube. I'm keeping both tanks. 57 gallons on board never hurt anything other than my pocketbook at fill up
The midshipmen is the 19. The only 17 is a short bed truck .
I have 38 rears in both my trucks.(f26e) My doolie has 38 plus midshipmen and will have a 25gallon in the bed. Pulling a camper it drinks the fuel lol.
If you look around you can find the f26e as a kit with the longer bolts and spacers included. The pickup will need some extending but not a big deal.
