I am considering adding a second fuel tank. A lot use the after market but I was thinking placing it where the spare tire is. My last truck was an Excursion and the truck equivalent could use both a spare tire tank and a saddle tank along frame rails. Just curious if anyone has done this too?
My hope is to add a box under flat bed with an RV Fuel station to it. Then we could fill the mowers and tractors off the truck tank and avoid the mess of 5 gallon tanks. When traveling it would also double our fuel capacity. It would be nice to run dual tank setup if possible.
Part numbers or retailer information would be nice from those that have done this already. If it becomes too much I will just put a box tank on top of the flat bed. I would rather keep the entire bed open for cargo.
I don't think new OEM EXcursion tanks (and skid plates) are still available, best bet would be to find an EX in a parts yard and use that. It has been done and shown here at some point, I remember a few threads on the subject. You may need to fabricate a new frame crossmember or two to have something robust enough to mount the 4 skid plate bolts to. The extra 44 gallons will be nice to have.
RVPuller that is what I thought too. I will be heading to the yards this weekend if it ever stops raining.
WE3ZS nice Excursion in your photo. I had an 01 Excursion with the 7.3. The fuel tanks were interchangeable in those years but I was looking for any options like cab chassis tanks and such. On guy locally welds up tanks and said he could make one that drops down from the top and sits on the frame rails. Not sure yet how much fuel I would get and If I could still hook it up in union with the existing tank. I guess the dual tanks are a thing of the past.
