1998 expedition center console

Has anyone taken it out for some reason? I'm trying to find a clever place for a gamecube, and I think inside there might be the spot - slice it, put a hinge on it so you can open it, and it might work well. However, if it's solid or there's just no room it wont work!

So I got this idea to take it apart!

Here's what it looks like:

Is that white support thing completely necessary? I want to cut out the part that has a black box around it - anyone think it's too terrible of an idea?

Also, should this wiring harness look like this?!

Also since this top piece comes off, I wouldn't have to do ANY cutting, could simply put a hinge on the front of it, remove all the clips (except for the back one) and put one of those lift arms on it if I want!
