Get the truck you want. If you're considering a dually I'd really consider the F-450. I do not regret it one bit. I purchased mine in May of this year. Actual mileage mixed towing and empty over 8800 miles is 12.53 mpg's.

I purchased my 450 to just haul around a small 4000lb camper.

That's something I'm struggling with and one of the reasons I would avoid the F450. Even with a 17,000 lb. trailer, I don't think I need a 4.30 gear. There are plenty of videos on youtube with guys pulling more weight that that with a 3.55. If I go to the 4.10 in a F350, I might as well do the F450. I don't want to start that argument on this thread, but I think I'll order a 350 with the 3.55.

We've regretted the decision to go to the bumper pull ever since. We're now going back to a fifth wheel and a dually to pull it.

Sarge
These two quotes sum up where we are at in our thinking today.

So to close this out, I went into the dealership and the owner, sales manager and the salesman were all sitting in a room which allowed me to lay it out for everyone that might care. As many suggested, there were completely willing to do whatever I wanted and were not concerned about selling what will be a very nice Platinum F350.

Thanks for all of your feedback.

We're going with a 40' fifth wheel and a 350 dually to pull it with. We discussed 450 vs 350, but we can only get the 450 with 4.30 gearing. We chose to go 350 with the 3:55 limited slip rear end, and 4x4. This truck is going to be perfectly capable of pulling the 16,000 lb fifth wheel we have picked out, and any other fifth wheel we might decide to get afterward.
Good luck with your purchase, I hope it works out for you!

Mine is 44ft and 16k as well. I just changed my 2017 350 drw with a 3.55 for a 450 2020. The 3.55 is superior for that weight for sure.... Despite everyone telling you that you need a 430. The perfect truck is a 350 Fatboy ! Sad it's not an option anymore

I am a fan on low gears and run 4:30’s in my F250. Even though I think 4:10’s make more sense in the 2020 F450 at least the new 10 speed auto knocks a couple of hundred highway rpms off when running about 70 mph and not towing compared to the 2019 F450

Sounds like it will be a very nice rig.

My father was in the right place at the right time once. A guy and his wife bought a giant 5h wheel and big drw to live and travel in for a year.. well they got half
way across the country and hated it all and wanted out right away.. My father buys everything for half of what it was worth and took them to the airport. Sold
the truck, as he had a very similar one, and still uses the 5th today.

Good choice.
Without question, and on looks not need, I would have ordered an F-450 if it were available with at least 3:55 rears. The 4:30 was the deal killer for me.
The 2020 6.7L simply makes a joke out of a 10K load with 3:31 rears.

450 if you're going dually, for sure. It's very close in price, you get bigger brakes, tires that will last much longer (especially towing), and, of course, you get the wide track front end; something I thought "yeah, that sounds nice" before owning a 450; yes, it's VERY nice, something I wouldn't be without in another truck pulling a large RV. RV parks are tight, being able to turn a few ft inside of a 350 dually just makes like easier. It's amazing how fast a 450 turns, until you drive it, you won't understand.

The 4.30 gears are the only thing I don't like, but I have a 2019; a 2020 has the 10 speed, which should bring the RPMs down a bit from where I am. I sit right at 2K RPMs at ~67MPH, I'd like that to be around 1600, which, with the 10 speed, I believe you'll hit. Tell you what though, pulling out of a gas station into traffic, those 4.30's a real nice, plenty of "get up and go" with any size trailer I've ever had behind it (up to 20K anyway).
