Did any `67 Rangers come stock with a 9" possie rearend?
cause my buddy has a `67 shortbed with a 9" .
The truck has no trim,72 doors, just the ford100 emblems
on the hood. It's got to be a Ranger.

In a previous thread it was determined that only shortbed V8 4 speed pickups came with the Dana axle. Maybe it was the limited slip option that got you that unit. I have found a couple shortbed 67 V8 4 sdeed pickups with a 9 inch and have yet to see a dana under a half ton.
Well, it seemed like that was the conclusion, that only the 67 short bed V8 4 speed had them. It seems odd to me because I would almost bet it was a supply problem with the 9 inch. Maybe a strike or shut down for retooling. Back in the 50s GMs hydramatic plant burned down and all the BOPs had powerglides for about a 3 or 4 month run. I think Pontiac ended up using them for the whole rest of the model year. Well anyway if the truth was know I am sure it was something like that. And maybe a few were still left when they started making 68s.

My first parts truck several months ago was a '68 Ranger longbox half-ton (390/C-6) and it had a Dana 60 limited slip w/3.25 gears. It's going into my '67.

Dana 60's didn't come with lower than 3.45's until the 80's was my understanding from everything I've read...
Oh yeah and the fram is long gone I just haven't updated the pic
The Dana 60 was predominately a 3/4 ton rear end with full floater axles. Chrysler used them behind their big blocks and as a performance option and the few 1/2 ton Ford Pickups had them. In the 3/4 and some 1 ton pickups the 3.55:1 was the tallest gear that they put in. The ones with the higher ( numerically lower ) ratios were actually called a 61 from what I have read, but there was some speculation that the 61 gears would work in a 60.

My 67 short bed V8 Auto has the Dana 44 L/S rear. It's an original automatic truck.
Maybe checking off the limited slip option is what got you a Dana 60 in 1967. It seems that all of them are. Now if we could just solve the mystery why the had to use a 60 instead of a 9 inch.
Ford issued a Trac-loc rearend option that was slightly bigger than the 9" for the 67-72 f100 truck... but not a D60. If you find a D60 in a half ton someone put it there.
Do any of you guys know where to find the VIN #? I was reading in the FB 18 edition of the *** catalog and it says "For 67-72 Fords the VIN plate is located on the right side of the cowl top panel under the hood." I don't have a clue what they are talking about. I looked on the upper firewall, and "under the hood" and I didn't see anything.
