I've got my truck on order and because I'm going from gas to diesel I've started looking at fuel cost, just to psych myself up for the cost increase. Surprisingly, the gas station down the road is selling diesel for $1.83/gallon and 87 octane gas for $1.85/gallon. Have fuel costs been equalizing lately? Or should I be suspicious of a diesel fuel that's cheaper than gas?
IMO.. I would always stay away from private-one of a kind & small stations. I only bought fuel from Chevron, Shell and truck stops depending on where I was. .I didn't want to risk the possibility of water.
Whether or not its true, I felt better. Thats the game I play in my head.
City boyz n their ideas............buy fuel where you see all the farmers and cowboys are buying. If they get bad fuel from *somebody*; said *somebody* Knows the cowboys will remove his gonads if he sells bad fuel!!!! LOL

This is Quik Trip, a well known chain around here (eastern Oklahoma).
I only buy at Kum & Go because they treat it with power service providing cetane boost, lubricity and winterization. It’s 1.99 there right now. 85 is 2.07, mid is 2.14 and premium 2.72. If you don’t care what brand you can find diesel as low as 1.81 and 85 as low as 2.02, but like others have said, stay with a high volume well established brand.
My local price for diesel is around 3.40 a gallon. Diesel in my area was higher than gasoline for many years. Our current diesel is about the same price as our mid-grade gasoline.
Diesel is really low right now, prepare yourself for prices to be significantly higher than gasoline when things normalize again. You will get better mpg with diesel so should offset the cost and be a similar dollar per mile to gas. If they lower the Sulphur content of diesel futher as is being discussed the price will go even higher in the future.
Just topped off my motorhome with diesel in northern Los Angeles County in prep for a trip. Paid $3.059/gal. The station has bays for gasoline and bays for trucks. This place is not considered a truck stop, however they do move a lot of diesel fuel. The price is high compared to other States, then again I live in the Socialistic Republic of California. The prices there are competitive tho.
I think @Thevol nailed it though. With the state of the economy, plus we're not in winter heating months yet, has probably combined to drive diesel fuel down lower than normal.
Up here in New England area, I have seen fuel from 2.20 to 3.10. No idea why such a price swing, but where i get fuel its usually about 2.50 .
I can't make heads or tails of the diesel pricing in New England. A couple shops are down to 2.39 but the majority are up at 2.99 and they're within about a block of one another. I use the 2.39 and I always see the local landscapers and such filling up there, it's a one-off gas and service station. I've been checking my water separator and it's been clean. Truck runs good so I'll keep going there vs. the high dollar places.
I just did a 1200 mile trip from S Fla to S Carolina and fuel prices ranged from 2.43 to 2.19 for diesel fuel . I did fuel up at the 2.19 station which was a Shell station
and it seemed to get lower mpg than the other stations could have just been me pushing a little harder .
All the big ships were supposed to start using low Sulphur fuel or install expensive scrubbers Jan of this year. These ships use a lot of fuel and include cruise ships. With all the supply chains being disrupted, cruise ships cancelled, and low oil prices in general there seems to be a glut of oil/gas/diesel on the market.
If history has taught us anything its that it will swing back up at some point.
Awhile ago when I was paying attention to local diesel prices it was roughly .75 more than 87. But now the spread is only about .30 per gallon.
Most Truck Stops or "travel stations" as they call themselves, here in Texas, are higher for Diesel than literally anyone else nearby.
With that, Diesel has been cheaper than regular unleaded for about a year now, in most of Texas that I've seen.
