Purchasing a Deleted 2012 6.7

Howdy y'all, I ran into a rather first time issue today and was wondering if anyone else has come across this issue before or could help shed some light on this; im always wanting to learn more about these trucks. So to give the backstory I've been looking into buying a 6.7 Powerstroke to replace my 150. I have been searching all over the state of Texas and thought I finally found the one today. I went to the dealer to go look and test drive the truck. She wasn't too pretty but for the price and milage I couldn't pass it up. Upon starting negotiations I was told that the dealer was not going to be able to sell me the truck unless they added the DPF system back onto the truck since it was fully deleted dpf and egr. I have always heard that dealers can't sell a deleted truck due to government regulations and all that, but what strikes me as odd is that I went to look at another fully deleted truck same year and engine at another dealer (that was a Honda dealer) across town and they didn't have any problem selling it to me. Is this a Ford dealer rule or am I just missing out on something here? Both trucks were in the same city and county which do NOT require smog testing or any kind of emissions check. Ive had no problems getting my other trucks inspected with no emissions so im kinda lost here. I ended up not buying the truck since they wanted to charge me an extra $3300 to replace the system. I felt like I was getting cheated out of my money and it just didn't seem fair. Sorry for the long post but im at a total loss here. I can't help but feel that due to the low price of the truck they were trying all that they could to squeeze out some money from this rig. Let me know what y'all think, Thanks -Zac

Its a EPA requirement, obviously one dealership doesn't care about fines and one does.

Sounds like the dealer is wanting you to pay for their mistake of taking a deleted truck as as trade in on one they sold. The dealer ought to add the emission items back onto the truck and adjust their selling price before placing it up for sale.

If you buy a deleted truck from anyone, make sure you get the tuner also. If the truck does not include the tuner, run away from it.

Unless you know the history, I would not buy a deleted truck. Period. The fact that the Ford dealer wasn’t smart enough to put the emissions stuff back on before letting customers see it is a big oversight on their part, in my opinion. Since you said it looks rough, couple that with it being deleted tells me it was not well cared for and I’d run far and fast.

Take your time and look for another truck. The fact the Ford dealer wants you to pay to fix the missing emissions hardware so they can make the sale is laughable!

The Honda dealer is taking on a lot of financial risk by selling a vehicle without all emissions hardware regardless of brand.

thanks for yalls input! Just Strokin, yes I do believe that they should've adjusted the price accordingly but they kept insisting that it was something that I was going to have to pay for which seems totally unfair to me which is why I think Ill be walking away from this deal.

Pugga, the truck was it rough shape cosmetically, I think the previous owner was in the oilfield and it was a to and from truck. I was however able to find information and pictures from the first owner and it wasn't deleted when they sold it at 98k and the truck has 131k which is why I was not as concerned as I normally would be. However I do think I dodged some sort of bullet as the rear fenders had rubber from what looked like one heck of a last ride burnout.

Go back and tell the dealer you need to call EPA and ask them about the emissions stuff like the DPF and Cat and should it be installed on a truck the dealer is selling. I would enjoy seeing their face when you asked them. But, they might be some uninformed sales people and give you a ****-eyed look and say huh.

not sure of your price range you are looking at but i do know that enterprise car rental usually has some F250 diesel trucks for sale, normally 1 to 2 years old.

I recently sold my 2013, one of the first things I was asked if it had all the emissions stuff on the truck.

I would never buy a truck unless in stock form or you really knew the truck and its owner prior to purchase.

Texas is the truck capital of the world. You should be able to find the right truck for the right price.

That's a smart dealer! And you can bet your *** the dealer that is trying to overcharge the OP knew for a fact this truck was deleted and took another 4k-5Kk off the trade in price in order to replace the deleted parts. And now they are trying to double dip? OP don't do any business with this shady dealer.

I would never buy a deleted truck. You just never know what can of worms you are getting when someone else deleted the truck.
Keep looking you may find a better truck at the price you can afford. Oil field trucks are not the best truck to get ether.

To be fair, I'm guessing that the Honda dealer was willing to sell a deleted truck because they didnt know it was deleted or what a delete even is. In general, you have to remember if you're new to diesels, a lot of these concepts like dpf, tune n delete, etc are very foreign. When I was first looking at diesels, I thought I could just slap an exhaust on it like a gasser and be on my way. It was only after a lot of research that I found out what a dpf was and if I took it off, I had to install a tune or otherwise the truck would limp mode and so on.

It's why some places sell deleted trucks because the dealers don't understand emissions on a diesel and a quick look under the truck plus them taking the word of the customer means the dealer now has a deleted truck on their hands. Obviously it's harder to pull this off at Ford, GM, or Ram since they have an understanding of diesel but Honda, Nissan, CarMax and those other places certainly don't have any idea. It's why you'll periodly read stories about people asking the salesman about a deleted truck and the guy goes huh?
