Each tank has one and if the check valve in the rear tank is leaking by when on the front you then get low PSI on the fuel system.
If the rear pump is weak at times, yes you said it checked ok but how bout when the issue comes up?
That is why they say to tape a fuel PSI gauge to the glass and take it for a run till it happens and see what the fuel psi is at.
If it is ok then you know to look else where.
Could try changing the TFI in the dist. to see if that does anything but if it is not a fuel psi thing or the TFI I am guessing a bad ECM (computer).
You can check the ground to it. I know on the older EFI trucks (80-86) the ground for the ECM is by the battery and can get bad from the battery acid.
Also the caps inside can go bad over time and cause issues.
