zf truck so no racentruck but good street beast.
Nothing exotic just bolt on quality parts. Maybe not cheap...not stupid$$ tho.
A comment on the trans. I love my ZF5, I was a devout stick shift driver until this truck. I have never owned an automatic vehicle, I have been driving manual vehicles since I was about 14. A manual transmission built for handling the duties of a truck is just too heavy to be fun to shift and keep up with the game. I am seriously considering doing an Allison 1000 conversion for my truck when money allows. At that point, it honestly might be cheaper to just do a complete Dmax swap, which would be sad and **** off a bunch of purists , but also highly pragmatic and would easily allow for more power. My goals for my truck are about 400-450hp which is doable on the 7.3, but as others have pointed out, not cheap. I'm looking at 200/80 injectors, I'm going to build my own E-fuel system (complete with air fuel separation), going to make my own HPOP rail mods so that the stock pump can keep up with the hybrids (until it can't), I already built my turbo for the injectors. After riding in my brother's GM 2500, it really made me realize just how much I'm losing running the ZF-5. On top of that if I switch to a Allison 1000 my freeway cruising speed goes way up (in CA everyone drives 75-80 and I feel twice my age haha), and I'll gain quite a bit of fuel economy to boot (~10mpg). Before any of that though I am working on getting my truck to ride like a more modern truck. I used to want to do power mods first (part of the reason I built the turbo for 200/80s), but now I am kind of at the point where I think power mods should come last. I realize they are the most instant fun, but getting everything else perfect just seems more sensible to me now. The truck still does everything it needs to right now. Hell, I will probably do the trans before I upgrade the motor anymore (unless of course something happens and I need to go in there anyway). Just my two cents. Obviously, do your build your way and in your order.
