Saw this thread and thought I'd give people some visuals on why you should switch out the ret@rded capped lug nuts Ford and other companies are using on their vehicles. Had my tires changed today and of course I don't have the equipment in my garage so had to take the truck somewhere. Long story short, see images below.
Side note: Anyone have any ideas on how to correct the fvkk-up on my rim by the idiot tech?
The way you correct that is to make a claim against their insurance. The wheel is perfectly serviceable, but the appearance is ruined.
Is something like this repairable at a "wheel shop"? As in, when all said and done, am I going to have a wheel that's a different shade of color than the other three? Shop said they'd pay for a repair, have to get an estimate (hopefully tomorrow). But if the coloring of the entire wheel is off after they "polish" or whatever and have to repaint, I'd rather just deal with the scratches.
Edit: Or is that what you meant by "serviceable, but appearance is ruined"? It can't be fixed.
The terminology is confusing, at least to me, thread/pitch, no problem, length no problem, taper(60deg), no problem but acorn acorn bulge, xl bulge , I dont get it. I honestly never knew that lug nuts could be complicated? Would anyone have a exact replacement to stock in gorilla/mcgaurd/white knight or whatever other good qauality nuts available. Thanks
That PVD coating will have to be completely removed and redone. Many places like Wheels America can do great repairs. I don’t know if they have PVD capability though.
If nddragon01 hadn't posted those pics I wouldnt have believed such a thing could happen, what a mess(lug nuts), i hope your rim gets repaired or replaced. Thanks to everyone for your advice/replies. Cheers
bend over and buy proper lug nuts, not the crap moco uses and charges you for them. Built ford lug nut tough
