Torque Converter options and recommendations please
Hello,
I owe a May Built 1995 F250 2WD 7.3 with 220k. Typical mods, 6637 intake, FFD intercooler kit, KC 360 kit with billet/turbine, TS chip, John Wood VB and MBRP turbo back exhaust, stock height/wheels. Looking at doing stage 1 injectors next year. Through others help here, Thanks, I was told I need to upgrade my torque converter do to current issues. I don’t tow very often at all. Daily driver mostly and frequently in traffic. Budget is Up to $5-600 currently.
few questions;
1) recommendation of where and what type of Converter? Amazon?
2) low stall?
3)is there a link that can be provided for write up as I’ll be doing it myself?
4) anything else I should be replacing while changing TC? Front pump seals, part #?
I really appreciate all who read and provide advise!
I would pay for a billet cover and at least one HD clutch in it. Triple disc would be preferred, but I bet one HD single will be fine.
PI is my go-to, but they are quite expensive. A few other guys have had great luck with lesser expensive options.
budget is 600. Found some on amazon stating triple disc, billet cover and welded vanes. Under 500. Also looked at full force diesel and came across Diamond T stating is tripe disc billet cover and up to 650hp.
Torco in ebay sell an affordable triple disc low stall TC for like 260. I have some in the work trucks and I had one in my trans and that thing held the abuse nicely and I'm no grandpa peddling the throttle and towed various loads at wot just for the hell of it. Mods in my sig.

thank you! As I’m trying to get this done ASAP before I cause tranny damage. Do you recommend any other parts I should replace while installing new TC? Seals, etc. I have John Wood VB already. Anything needed at front pump while in there?
Ye, you should. In my opinion, the stock converter stall speed is too high. I have driven a couple of trucks with lower stall converters and I think it's a big improvement.
Pump seal, maybe the flex plate if you see any cracks, rear main although rare for leakage but it's there so... Bellow up pipes will be easy to install with trans out as well.

There is no optimal stall for a transmission. There is an optimal stall for each engine. Torque converters should be matched to the engine's torque curve. For the earlier PSD I recommend about 1800 RPM stall.
Thanks to all who responded! I’m sure many of you have answered these questions repeatedly but I appreciate you taking the time to answer several of my specific questions. I hope as I learn here and with hands-on experience I can share this knowledge to others and most importantly keep my 7.3 for many years to come. Absolutely love this truck!
My new torque converter is on its way. I also am removing front pump installing transgo mods then resealing. Up pipes going in as well.
my question is since current torque converter went out, should I flush my tranny? I’m guessing the current fluid may have materials or contamination from old TC. If so, should I flush it after installing new torque or before?
