Hi, I have a 2019 F350 Platinum DRW and will be installing an ADD rear bumper w/ 2 led lights and was wondering if anyone had tips on getting the wires for the LED lights to their power source. Is there a preferred path on running the wires for this? Any tips or needed tools(fishtape?) would be appreciated. Thanks!
Guess it depends on what power source you want to use.
I ran power to some aux reverse light from upfitter 6 , ran the wire through the grill to the driver's side then followed the wire harness down the driver's side all the way back to the rear bumper.
I dropped the spare tire to get extra working room and grounded the lights to existing ground wire locations on the driver's side of the spare tire well.
Having been in the upfitter/ aftermarket install business, we tried to follow factory routes. I still do when I tinker on my vehicles. Good wire with a good jacket is a must, as well as glue filled shrink wrap and solid solder joints.
Like the original poster, I'm going to be adding some LED lights in the rear, but I dont have factory upfitter switches, are there any plugs on the firewall that my wires can be ran through. I haven't had a chance to get under my truck and look.
Like the posters above I followed the factory wiring along the drivers side.
Like 2020STX250 I also dropped the spare tire (it was easy and made for way more room to work).
Having a long stiff piece of wire to fish your added in wire over the fuel tank is super helpful. Following the factory harness up and over the fuel tank, keeping it neat and tight was by far the hardest part of the job.
Just forward of the fuel tank the harness transitions from inside the frame rail to outboard.
I used a jacketed multi-conductor trailer wire so I had spares run for any future needs going front to back (or if one conductor ever failed).
If you are going to go through the work to run one wire, may as well run a jacketed multi-conductor and be set for any future expansion for the same amount of work.
Have lots of good quality wire ties, and follow the factory harness along the drivers side frame rail, from rear bumper all the way into the engine compartment, zip tie-ing along with the factory wiring harness the whole way along the drivers side frame rail.
If you have upfitters that path quite literally runs you right up to the box. If you do not have upfitters thats where you will have to find your next path (I guess find a grommet into the cabin).
Its not a hard job but I'll say to do it neatly so that it looked factory took alot longer than I expected.
