I have a 2000 F350 DRW V-10. The steering on it has loosened up considerably over the past couple of weeks. I can turn the wheel a few inches in either direction without effecting the trucks track. I have also noticed that my power steering pump is a little noiser than before. I only have 48k miles on the truck. Does anyone have any suggestions for tightening up the steering?
You obviously checked the fluid levels? Sounds like not enough fluid in the hydrolics to afect the steering ost likely. Also the tension on the belt but I think you may have a more serious pump problem if your fluid level is OK. Unlike the older Ford trucks, there are no screw down tighting nuts to adjust. Time to face the dealer with this one if everything else looks OK on the outside...
My brother had a Ford truck come into his shop the other day with some slop in the steering and he found the steel bushing in the aluminum steering wheel had started to slip. It appears to be welded into the aluminum, but on this vehicle it broke free and was giving a very sloppy feel to the steering.
