Valve Body Sticking
The transmission shift from 1st to 2nd is hitting late and very, very hard.
I try to deal with it by letting up on fuel just a moment before she shifts, but it's an easy moment to miss.
My repair was going to be replacement of the trans fluid, maybe adding Lucas Oil to it, cleaning the filter and hope the sticking would stop.
I think that's all I can do before I have to have the valve body rebuilt.
Anything I'm missing? Someone else must have dealt with this issue before.....

If you haven't removed the valve body, get the codes read. Actually, that would be a good idea in either case. The places that read codes free CANNOT read these codes. You need Forscan, or a good independent shop, or a Ford dealer.
I consulted an owner of a shop I trust about the problem and he suggested that replacing the AT fluid completely, cleaning the filter and adding Lucas would give me at least a shot at solving the problem.
To be clear, this late shift issue has been going on for months, since 2018. I got hurt in 2018 and couldn't work on my Expedition except for minor issues, stil disabled, still that situation and not working, no money to pay anyone for a repair. If push comes to shove, I can get the unit into a reliable shop, but I want to have as best a handle on what's going on so I have a little bit of control with the repair.
The "sticking valve" is the only term I know. I wasn't sure if the hard shift, late in the rampup of the RPM cycle was electrical with a sensor improperly sending wrong information to the computer.
I thought that because I had to replace the GEM already and may-be it had some impact on the functioning of the AT.
What I'm trying to understand is if the problem truly is a replacement of the AT as you said in your reply. I hear you about the filter only getting clogged if something in the AT failed and metal shavings or whatever are clogging the filter. What goes against that thinking is that the problem has gone on for-ever! I'd think debris or shavings in the filter would have indicated a bigger failure by now and not gone on for months.
I hope that helps clarify my confusion. I'm unable at this point to crawl under the vehicle to get serial numbers, but if that information is necessary to assist you in your thinking, I have a friend who would do that for me.
Thanks,
chad
