no filter/screen on valve body. problem??

rebuilding the valve body on my 78 C6 now and noticed that it doesn't have the little screen/filter on it like my manuel shows. I have the regular pan filter, just not the little one on the side of the valve body. is this a big deal? i would like to think it is since the valve body is so critical of dirt and sludge. And there is a lot of shavings in here. main regulator valve was completely frozen....wouldn't budge at all. ive tried to find another with no luck at all. any suggestions?

got another quick question if you're still on.... i ordered a new sprag for the reverse hub and it's the one with the plastic cage. it says i need to remove both snaprings when using this one. which two are they talking about... is it the one that holds the metal type sprag in place and the one that is used as a "spacer" between the race and the piston spring retainer?

One will use a brass spacer, the other won't.
