Clock spring, '13 & '17

Sunday, Fun day.

I guess I'm just lucky.
When I had my '13, the radio controls started acting weird, controlling wrong function ect.
A lot of info indicated it was the buttons.
I replaced the button pack, same issue.
It would work fine depending on the temperature.
If it got to hot or cool, it would act up. Normal temp, normal operation.
Overtime it got worse.
I finally took it in and they replaced the clock spring... I had the extended warranty and the parts cost was the same as the deductible... I let the dealer do it.
Never knew what caused the issue...started around 50k miles.

On my '17 I know exactly what happened.
I was getting gas and resetting the trip counter when the horn honked.
It started acting just like the '13.
I purchased a clock spring and replaced it today.
Everything seems normal now, time will tell.

Point of the post is to give people a heads up on the horn honking while messing with the controls and to post a picture of the clock spring for guys that have never seen one.
I took it apart of course.

4 ribbon cables, lots of lubricant on them.

Wow, back in the good old days there was a plunger and spring that transferred power to a flat plate coated with copper flat washer. Of cause all you had on the steering wheel was a horn button. you controlled everything else with a button **** or slide lever on the dashboard. I almost forgot the switch in the floor you stepped on to get the headlights from dim to bright. My very first vehicle was a 1947 Dodge pickup, which had been purchased by my Grandfather, and it had a pedal you stepped on to start it. The wipers were vacuum so you had none when you accelerated, but there was a little lever that you could manually wipe. It also had a box heater added for the cab, and in the engine compartment a flat head 6 cylinder engine an added on sock oil filter, pickups did't come from the factory with either. I had to pay my Mother $300.00, so she could buy a 1957 Plymouth. Ah yes the good old days!

Opp's I forgot that the horn button was on the side of the steering column, it was added because they didn't come with them either. It's been 52 years since I bought that truck (I was 14).
