OP -- I'm concerned about all that heat going in there.
What welding process are you going to use on installation? Also be mindful cleaning products like common degreasers leave a lot of residual and will affect the integrity of your welds.

I agree. Even if using Simple Green Precision Cleaner You will still need to give it a last surface treatment to remove what may be left behind on the surface.
I plan on tacking a 1/4 bar on the backside of the perch mount to attempt to keep it straight in case I dump too much heat into it. But I plan on taking my time and not rooting in one pass once the bracket has been welded back together. I do plan on at least a plate reinforcement along the separation area. I do not have a procedure picked out but will either be MIG or stick.
