dash panel problems

None of the electrical guages on my dash work. The speedo works, the light works. The gas, amps, temp, and that other one (I think) that I can't remember at the moment, all move a little bit, but don't actually work.

I've replaced the "thing" that everyone told me was bad. I think it was called the "instrument panel voltage regulator" or something similar, but nothing changed.

As near as I can tell all is hooked to the panel correctly. The harness in general is exceptionally clean and all original. In fact I've never seen a used rig that the wiring was as clean as this. It has only one wire tapped into it from a CB that used to be in it and it is still hot and still measures 12 volts (engine off, power on)

When the power is on all the guages wiggle and are just off a bit from where they are when there is no power.

Any suggestions?
Are there leads I should check and where are the other ends I should check them against, etc...?

Thanks!
Jesse

Have you checked the grounding? When all gauges/lights go south, you can almost bet it's a grounding problem. You changed the regulator, so that should be ok. Make sure all dash "grounded" panels are electrically connected together. Then make sure the dash panels are well grounded to the firewall, or other known good ground. Make sure you are not missing your engine/frame to firewall ground wire. On my 68, with a 300 six, that wire is on the drivers side, down around the clutch equalizer thing. Being your lights work, it's probably a ground problem right in that gauge area of the panel. Run a known good ground wire to the gauge panel metal, and see if they come to life, as a test. MK
