ok, guys you have to realize that I work in a truck shop that has all the fabrication machines that I might need, ford never used a dana 44 rear end or an 8.8 front end, the deal is do you think that a 9in rear and 44front(both will be upgraded) will handle tires in the 36-44 range, while installed under a ranger.

36's will probably be ok. Even with 40's they may survive, 44's are just going to be too much in my opinion.

Since even 36's can break those axles if you get rough with it, and 44's will eat them without thinking, just run whatever you want and when you break, upgrade. Since you work in a truck shop it shouldn't be a problem.

bull****
the exploder/F-150 has the same size axles as the 31 spline 9" its only weak link is the cross pin and case. Add a spool or full case locker to it, and its every bit as strong as a 31 spline 9"
Not to mention has much stronger shafts than a early bronco 9"

That being said, a F-150 9" is the way to go. Just get axles from a 76-77 F-150 and you will be set. 78-79's have cast on C perches that will cause you all kinds of hell whe you try to narrow in the mounting points to ranger width, or try to put leafs on it.

You didn't say what motor your running, but since you were crazy enough to run 36's on your stock ranger axles, it can't be anything to wild under the hood.

My guess is with 40's, and a dana 44 it should hold up decently.

The whole problem with this thread is that it all depends on what the state of your motor is and how you run it. Sure, the 9 is a great, tough axle. If I slung a 9, even with hardened shafts, in my truck I would OWN it. It would blow in the first outing. Pair that 9 with 44s, a stock engine ,and a senior citizen, and it will forever. So, the often-asked question "will my axle live with this tire" needs to be coupled with how you use it and how pissed off your engine is. Example, I easily blew my front hp 60 with my 44s, but thats because both my engine and I have anger management issues. My previous advice stands: Run what you want and when it breaks, upgrade.
