Hey y’all!
So I’m trying to clean up the engine a little bit and I want to strip, clean and paint the Intercooler pipes!
So my question is can I unwrap the driver side pipe? All the “upgraded” ones I see for sale are not wrapped with anything??
I unwrapped my pipe. I soaked my IC pipe in a tub of gasoline overnight, and the stuff peeled right off easily. There was some residual glue that I used a wire wheel on my drill to finish it off. I then cleaned it really well with soap and water.
Looks much better. May be slightly more turbo noise, but not enough that I really pay attention to it.
If you are planning on painting it I would run sandpaper over it to smooth out the imperfections. Should turn out really nice after that. I left mine bare for now and it already looks much better. I may decide to paint it when I do my T4/SXE conversion, but not sure.... Worried I'd scratch the hell out of it putting it back in.
Also on re-install pay attention to the clearance between the fitting on the PS and the IC tube. They can rub and punch a hole in the IC tube pretty easy, especially with insulation removed.
