Hope everyone is staying healthy. I have long slow crank issues on my 2000 F250 7.3. I just replaced both batteries (interstate 65/850CCA/1000 CA) under warranty and also changed the GPR with larger White-Rodgers one (planned upgrade). I am thinking the starter is getting tired at 120 K miles. I have searched all the threads here involving starters for these trucks, but most of them are at least 5 years old. I am looking at the following ones:
Powermaster 9051
DB Electrical SND0355
Denso TG228000-8420
XDP Wrinkle Black Gear Reduction Starter
Any updates on these from folks who have used them? I heard the DB crapped out after a year or so.
The original Denso (made in Japan, I think) is well worth the $300+. I had the knockoff Denso from DB that failed within a year or so - it sheared a shaft, had it repaired for backup - then purchased the real Denso, green sticker on body.
I had a DB Electrical with no issues. I had to grind a tad on the frame to make it fit but it was trouble-free. Others did not have the luck I did with the DB Electrical unit.
Thanks for all the feedback. the CNC folks want $30 shipping! I am trying to find a less expensive place to buy a genuine Denso starter. They do no not take military discounts.
Anyone hear of www.densoproducts.com ? $30 cheaper than CNC (with shipping)
Yup, genuine Denso as seen and heard below... Like you, that $30 was a hard pill to swallow. I also asked about military discount, but I will pay for a quality product from a quality shop with a reputable business owner 10/10 times even if that means I have to pay a bit extra.
SOUS-
Alright, good to go. Thank you for the heads up on the upgraded hardware needed. I agree, I like doing things correctly the first time, and not have to keep replacing cheap parts. I understand the shipping, these buggers are heavy; I guess I am too used to the Amazon Prime mentality and not the smaller USA businesses.
Thank yo for your service MSgt.
Corey is the business owner of CNC Fabrication Diesel and he is a stand up guy. Just like Clay at Riffraff Diesel or Bob at Diesel-O-Rings. I understand the need for bargain shopping as we live on a retirement budget and money is tight. But, these fellas do their very best to support our dinosaur trucks and offer competitive rates with top notch quality. There is no mistaking what you are getting in the mail with these guys.
Thank you for your service as well! I worked side by side with Marines in Pakistan when we were supporting the Iraq invasion in 2004. My in-law is a Marine E-5 headed to OTS on September 4th to receive a well deserved commission.
Military service was never easy, but it was rewarding...
I saw your write-up! Excellent. The only fly in the ointment is I have an automatic 4R100 and it is 4x2. Would the bolts be different than M10 x 1.5. x 45?
I see you have already ordered the Denso so not trying to muddy the waters here.
I have used a Powermaster in the race car for many many years with good results (on the 1 and only unit I’ve ever had). I’m wondering if anyone has used this for our trucks. If I remember correctly it’s much cheaper than the Denso.
