Went for an alignment, and didnt get one. Both right ball joints, and the inner tie rod ends need replaced. Im thinkong about just getting a full set of remans from detroit and doing the whole mess. Left and right, tie rods, and crossbar. Wondering if you guys think the same, or have any reason not to do so? 260k e99 f250.
In the middle of my second front end rebuild on this truck first time I got the moog tie rods and drag links they lasted about 75 k swapped them all with ford parts. The large tie rod is a sticker shocker but seems to be better built than the previous part number. My ball joints are spicer one the left and XRF on the right they have about 65k on them and seem fine. Next time I’ll be doing the Ford Motorcraft initially when I did the ball joints the parts they showed me had to spicer logo. Recently I called the dealership to see what the new price was it was much higher I asked why if it’s a Spicer part and they said this one is a new Ford part made by Ford. Also doing the pitman arm CNC fab recommended saving the old jam nut and double nutting it. Since I have a lift I’m going to try the icon 4 inch drop arm. Best to do it all at once. Also what are you referring to as the cross bar?
Ok. Sounds like a full replace is the preffered route, regardless of parts source. I dont want to do half, and then have the other side fail in 6 months... i call the outer tie rod the cross bar. It connects hub to hub. The inner tie rod connects from the pitman arm, to the cross bar. Not technically proper, but keeps it straight in my head.
Your E99 has a few different parts than other SD’s.
You can change unit bearings, rotors and calipers with L99+ parts so you don’t have the oddball E99 stuff.
I like XRF Ball joints and steering stuff. These are Detroit Axle unit bearings (filled with grease via the ABS sensor hole). These calipers and rotors are autozone, but I’d recommend ‘lifetime warranty’ rotors from NAPA. The EBC Yellowstuff pads are the best stopping power you can get.
