Bart, there is a lot of safety factor in there. On my last two trucks, I've run at 0 MTE for quite some time in harry situations. I've found when I hit 0 to empty, I had about 3-5 gallons left in the tank based on what I saw when I filled up...

Are you saying the tank capacity Ford lists actually will hold more than that number? And if so then maybe the DTE is set for the listed capacity rather than the total capacity so that would create a reserve?

No, I'm saying the opposite. DTE is conservative and when it says 0 to empty, there are a few gallons left. There is actually a way to reprogram the DTE using engineering mode in your instrument cluster. You do hand calcs and do the math to reprogram and get it more accurate. It also gets your average MPG more accurate. There are youtube videos on it.
