Once you have a VIN assigned, it’s locked.
The only way to make a change is to cancel/reorder.
That’s what I thought. The dealer ordered a 2020 replacement for my Lemon Lawed 2019 without checking with me. The 2019 had rain sensing wipers standard with the options I had but in 2020 they needed to be ordered separately. Also with 18” wheels the highest axel ratio was 3.31 in 2019 and a 3.55 is available in 2020. The 3.31 does the job but a 3.55 would bring RPMS up 100 rpm at 60 MPH. With the 2020 10 speed transmission I don’t know how it would work with 3.31.

In reality, there isn’t much difference between the two. The 10 speed offers a whole new dimension of rpm control if you are running super heavy.
You won’t believe the power difference from your 19’ until you actually drive the 2020.
I tow 10-12K. IMO, 3:31 gears are the right set for this trans/engine combo, and I would order it the same way again.
I think the answer is, it depends. I've read here that someone was able to change colors after the VIN was issued, but someone else tried to change axle ratio and could not because it's directly tied to one of the VIN digits.
I have the 3.55 on my 2020 and would not change it, but maybe that depends on which motor you're getting? With the PSD, you'll probably be OK with 3.31 unless you plan on installing big tires.
I wouldn't lose sleep over the rain sensing wipers. It doesn't work for s**t on the 2020 and I have it turned off anyway. The option you may want is the windshield de-icer. You have to choose that option to get the heated steering wheel and many folks miss that one.

Reason: ding's post
Not Necessarily true. I had my vin about 2 weeks and decided I wanted to change the gear ration to 4:30. It was changed. I think the cut off point is when its says " sent to production " tell your dealer now, the sooner the better. Good luck

The rain sensing wipers come with the de-icer option. At least that's the case on the Lariat.

Starting in 2020 if you ordered a Lariat and wanted Rain sensing wipers you had to select option 60 W = Heated steering wheel, de-ice wipers and rain sensing wipers. My 2019 had them as part of another package which I think was the Lariat Ultimate pkg.

That's true. I forgot that it was part of the de-icer option since I never cared about rain sense, just wanted the heated steering wheel. Hopefully the de-icer part works better than the rain sense.
Does anyone know if a special order be changed if window sticker not yet available but it has been assigned a VIN number?
To answer my own question. I called the dealer on Saturday he was able to make the changes. When he made them and “hitting F4” the system showed the changes “pending”. He said that’s a good sign that the order wasn’t locked 🔒 since it wasn’t immediately rejected. He said he would check the status next week to see if changes were applied and would get back to me. He said the truck was scheduled to be built mid October. Fingers crossed.
Excited?
It’s going to be an awesome build!
When you get it, you’ll not regret 21 mpg and be in awe of the pulling power improvements.
George,
Thank you. I’m excited. This build is exactly like my 2019. Only difference is the 2020s have 3rd generation 6.7 L, 10 speed transmission plus pro trailer backup assist. With Lemon Law buyback calculations, it will cost me the Sticker difference of about $3,000 and $5,000 in “usage fees”. I don’t trust my 2019 even after they replaced the harness. Last week while towing our 5th wheel I had first incidence of Death Wobble. My wife about pooped in her pants and said glad we are getting rid of this truck.
I’m really looking forward to the reported pulling power improvements. If the fuel mileage increases that would be an added bonus.
I was hoping for a 3.55 axle instead of the 3.31 that my 2019 had. The 2019 options didn’t allow a 3.55 with 18” wheels unless you ordered HD front springs. The 2020 can be ordered with 3.55 w/18” wheels w/standard springs.
