I ordered a f250 spec out they way I wanted at the end of May, not scheduled to be built yet as of last night. I talked to my dealer and asked him to add one item, locking rear end. Will this change my place in line to schedule to build? I know it will change the price, not enough to worry about. Not worried to much about the time, allows me more time to dig up the funds.
Well, I don’t know if I can give you a definitive answer, but in my own experience (and I’ve ordered a number of vehicles), I don’t think it makes a difference in scheduling. The priority and dealer allocation are what determines the schedule.
Until there is a vin number locked to your order, you can add or remove what you want. Scheduling won't change. It is just paper until it is being built unless you pick something out of the ordinary like a fleet color. Cj
Thank you for your replies. I not too much worried about a schedule change due to adding something just curious if it does change because you modified your order. Besides if it did it just give me more time to get the funds.
I think that you misunderstand the replies. While the order has been accepted, changes can be made. When they generate the VIN and the production date, it cannot. The reason is they look at the options and schedule the parts for production. Do they have enough of the items in the pipeline to build your truck. Once they schedule the build, it is locked in. That is what I believe.
I got my VIN today when I emailed the dealer. It was ordered on the 6th of July. So I dont think that matters, I think its the Stcker that matters no ?
It is not when you get the VIN, but when they schedule the build and that locks it in. When they do that, they generate the VIN. If unsure, ask your dealer. They will tell you if you can change your order. Sometimes they will take the truck that you first ordered, and allow you to order a second truck with the changes you ask for. For others here on the forum. If ordering your truck, make sure you take the time to choose your options before you order. Hard to change it after you make the order and the longer since the order, less likely you can change.
I wanted to change an item on my truck. One week after the VIN was issued and the production date was scheduled, I wanted to add the adaptive cruise control. Dealer said I would have to cancel and re order the vehicle. I left the order as it was. I had two monthes added to the order anyway because of the Covid19 production shutdown.
