Power Steering VS manual steering differences (???)

I have a FORD power steering box already in my truck. The steering COLUMN ASSEMBLY is for an automatic transmission shifter.

The stupid previous owner pulled the shift handle off WHEN HE PUT IN A STUPID FLOOR SHIFTER and a 3 speed manual transmission.

I want to put my 3 speed column shifter in (from my parts truck) and use the 3 speed in the way IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE..... (3 on the tree).

My 3 speed shift tube and all internals came from a column assembly that had a MANUAL STEERING BOX. SO, I know that the steering shaft is too long to sub in the whole column assembly.

Here is my question......

Will I be able to use the column assembly tube with the "3 on the tree" shift tube..... and just put in my SHORTER STEERING SHAFT in order to get the column assembly I need so I can use the power steering box already in my truck?

I guess it boils down to the length of the "3 on the tree" steering column tube length....right?

What do y'all think?

Well..... after a little more digging I did find a couple of diagrams with part numbers (?)..... I guess these are part numbers ???
Anyway.....
Every time I see a steering column tube in these diagrams, it appears the tube itself has the same part number.... 3514 ....

Does this mean the same tube is used no matter which steering column you have.. (power steering, manual steering, standard transmission, automatic transmission, or tilt steering)...?

If so, I would suppose it is just the guts (bearings, steering shaft, etc) that would be different each time you have a different steering column configuration..... IS THIS CORRECT do y'all think??

Just throwing stuff against the wall to see if anything sticks.....

You way of thinking in the 1st thread makes sense, to change to the shorter steering shaft. And that also makes sense that the pt#3514 is same same. I guess when you take it all part, swap parts around and then go to put it in, you will know it you hoped/guessed or did it right. Good luck. Maybe not the answer you need, but I support your ideas.

Well I a do not know 100% that it is right or going to work, but your thinking sounds like a solid plan.

Yea we might get a from ND. No big deal I use to get them many times a day from him.

I'm not Numberdummy but...
No, the manual and automatic shift tubes are not the same. The way Ford's numbering system works is the illustrations in the parts catalog shows the basic part number, ALL shift tubes have the same basic number, 3514. You take this number and go to the text section of the catalog and look up the 3514 section. There you will find the full part number.
In your case, if this is for the '78 F150 in your profile, the full part number is D8TZ-3514-E. This is for 3 spd manual with power steering.

Thanks Mike....
Is the 3 speed manual column tube the same WITH and WITHOUT power steering?

The parts truck I am taking the steering column from had manual steering. My truck that am restoring has the power steering unit.

Thanks again !!!!
