The ignition switch in my 66 P-100 feels stiff and dry. Any recommendations on lubing it. I'd prefer to not take it apart if I don't have to, thinking of a shot of WD-40, I've used that on push-pull switches with success, but I thought I'd ask the guru's. Thanks. John
My favorite "light" lube that creeps into every crevice is still Tri-flow. It comes in a spray and a small bottle with a long thin tube that you can insert into key slots like the door locks and ignition. It only takes a couple drops, so a bottle will last a long time. WD-40 is very short lived and not really a good lubricant. WD stands for "water displacement".
I didn't think of the graphite. About the only thing I've found WD-40 good for is lubing window run channels. I think what it did on the switch for my Farmall Cub was flush some crud out, making it smoother.
This stuff works well dries clean and slick. You should pull the lock cylinder and clean it first and put a dab of white grease on the end of it. All you need to pull the lock cylinder is a paper clip. Turn it to acc. stick the pin in the hole, turn it counter clockwise and pull it out.
