Hi all. I think I'm going to have to put a new ignition switch in my truck. Earlier today I drove to the store and when I left the truck died before I made it out of the lot. It would restart each time then die after I would take off. I noticed that before it would die that I would lose all the gauges and I saw that when the gauges quit working and it started to die if I wiggled the key then everything would come back on and it would keep running. Would you guys recommend trying to find an nos ignition switch or is there a specific type you would recommend.
NAPA sells ignition cylinders, maybe the whole switch. It is probably that the ignition switch if common to several models over several years of production.
You could pull the switch and see if you can get a match.
We may get some better responses, such as Numberdummy giving us the rundown on the part number etc.
I took a really quick look, and a 1967 F250 ignition switch is actually available from of all places, Autozone (which means many other parts places will have it too).
I'm not sure it's exactly the same thing you have in an F600, but I remember my brother's 1968 F600 had a lot of similar parts to my 1974 highboy. I'm willing to bet the ignition switch was the same too.
My main question is should I try to find an original or go aftermarket? I don't want to buy one from the parts store if it won't last as long as OE would
Next question. I pulled the old switch out and theres a spade connection on the outside edge and there was nothing attached to it. Should there be something hooked there and if so what is it?
