Cooling question
The reading you received from your ohm meter is probably right on the money. What you have to remember is that the resistance you measure will fluctuate (possibly a LOT) based on the temperature of the engine.
The resistance reading "Stone Cold" in Minnesnowta will be different then "Stone Cold" reading in Florida.! . . even in July.
I think more than the actual numbers, you are looking for a marked change in the reading between "cold" and "hot". If you see a change, chances are the sending unit is working properly.
It also sounds like you have indeed found the thermostat (Inside that flange with the 2 bolts).
Be patient and stick with this job. I have the feeling you are close to the solution . . or at least accurately identifying the problem !
HTH.
ok, but why arent the ohms on the sending unit right? or was i just measuring it wrong? i took the positive wire from the multimeter, and put it on the top of the sending unit where the wire hooks on, then i grounded the black to the intake manifold. i think in the haynes it said to ground it to somthing on the engine. but i'll check the temp sensor. and from what i understand from the above post, the thermostat is inside the metal flange that the hose is clamped onto, and that is bolted onto the engine block with 2 bolts, does this sound right?
